From mar@roe.ac.uk Mon May 20 16:23:09 2013 Date: Mon, 20 May 2013 16:14:28 +0100 From: Mike Read To: VDFS Science Archive Team -- Clive Davenhall , Eckhard Sutorius , Mark Holliman , Nicholas Cross , Nigel Hambly , Rob Blake , Ross Collins , Stelios Voutsinas Cc: CCs for VDFS -- Alastair Edge , Andrew Lawrence , Bob Mann , Dante Minniti , James Dunlop , Jim Emerson , Keith Noddle , Lorenzo Rimoldini , Maria-Rosa Cioni , Matt Jarvis , Mike Irwin , Nigel Metcalfe , Norman Gray , Phil Lucas , Richard McMahon at IOA , Simon Dye , Stephen Warren , Tom Kerr , Tom Shanks Subject: WFAU VDFS Science Archives project meeting minutes, 17/5/13 Present: MAR, RPB, RGM, NJC, RSC Apologies: JPE, AL, STV, NG, KTN, MSH, RPB, ETWS, NCH DoNM: 10am Friday May 31st 2013 in the Villas meeting room NCH in the chair (room is booked). Actions discharged this time: ----------------------------- ACTION: RPB to create and publish neighbours tables between UKIDSS DR10 and SDSS DR9. Discharged; neighbour tables now available in the release DBs. ACTION: MAR to announce archive downtime via the wsa- and vsa-announce lists. MAR failed to do this and the moment has now passed (though there were no complaints about the archives being offline). Actions partly discharged but continuing: ----------------------------------------- ACTION: NJC to check the standard crossmatching of non-survey PI programmes for inclusion of WISE (all) and SDSS-DR9 (WFCAM) Partially done. ACTION: All to have a think about how to employ coverage maps to provide quantitative overlap information A few thoughts but the hope was that MSH would have found the answer at the Heidelberg IVOA Interoperability meeting. Actions carried forward from 26/04/2013 meeting ----------------------------------------------- ACTION: NJC to update VISTA auto-QC to deprecate C/D/R flagged frames Continues. ACTION: MAR to have a go at releasing other VISTA PI DBs (e.g. for JPE) Continues. ACTION: ETWS, with RPB, to develop an automated helper script to keep release DB files links updated. Continues; this one still has low priority. Specific points and new actions: -------------------------------- Project management: Clive Davenhall would be returning to the fold to take up an appointment starting Monday 27th May. RGM noted that the plan was to hold another WFAU quarterly meeting sometime in June and asked that everyone ensure that their "staff absences" are up-to-date on the TWiki. WFCAM, VISTA and VST updates: Nothing to report. Comments and issues arising from CASU minutes: The team noted the minutes of the meeting of 1st May. CASU had noted interest in the cost/performance of the NAS box that we have on order, MSH should be able to provide details. Networking: With ETWS away this was assumed to be working and busy transferring VISTA v1.3 data, from our monitor pages is looks like we have transferred SV up to P87. WSA/VSA/OSA/GES Operations: VISTA v1.3 transfers/ingests. VVV ingests (v1.2) continue. Hardware and Systems: Other than a failed disk on Pedubaste and a crash on Ini all hardware was working well. Survey Data Release: The VVV DR2 release process continues. The VVV detection table outgest in CUI16 has been significantly improved via the use of SQL server common table expressions (CTE). It was noted that similar cunning might be needed when it came to CU19. Feedback from ESO identified further issues in the data supplied for VMC and VIDEO and highlighted a bug and feature of how MJDs and totalExpTime are derived. A revised VIKING ESO release was currently being uploaded. RSC reported that there had been enquiries about a GES consortium release. Whilst the dataset is still somewhat inhomogeneous it was agreed to get something out the door asap. MSH had provided MAR and ETWS with Mercurial access to the ATLAS UI project (Clearwing). MAR thought that STV had updated a lot of the ATLAS webpages to reflect recent changes made to the old system but would look through the content/documentation. Software: NJC reported further work on the ESO release code, and the matched aperture pipeline. RSC reported work on the GES archive including re-working the schema, extracting metadata from the spectra files and deriving target data. He also mentioned that Annette Ferguson had offered to help out by road-testing the UI/documentation. Non-survey Data Release: None since last time. Astrogrid deployment, VO & Data Analysis services: RSC mentioned seeing an interesting presentation on VODB ("A user-friendly desktop application that simplifies the process of extracting and analysing data from astronomical databases"). Miscellaneous: RGM noted that he and RSC had a skype telcon that afternoon with the postdoc due to work on the MonetDB project. -- Scanned by iCritical.
