From mar@roe.ac.uk Mon May 28 16:14:53 2012 Date: Mon, 28 May 2012 16:14:47 +0100 From: Mike Read To: VDFS Science Archive Team -- Clive Davenhall , Eckhard Sutorius , Mark Holliman , Nicholas Cross , Nigel Hambly , Rob Blake , Ross Collins , Stelios Voutsinas Cc: CCs for VDFS -- Andrew Lawrence , Bob Mann , Jim Emerson , Keith Noddle , Lorenzo Rimoldini , Mike Irwin , Norman Gray , Stephen Warren , Tom Kerr , Tom Shanks Subject: WFAU VDFS Science Archives project team meeting minutes, 25 may 2012 Present: MAR, RGM, RSC, NJC, RPB Apologies: JPE, AL, KTN, STV, NG, MSH, NCH, ETWS DoNM: 10am Friday June 8th 2012 in the VH (NCH in the chair) Actions discharged this time: ----------------------------- ACTION: RSC to modify CU19 to drop and renew DB connections after each command issued in the release DB build. Done, though no-one convinced it has helped speed up the VVV index creation. ACTION: ETWS to restart CU19 for the VVV in append mode following RSC's scalability mod Done. ACTION: NCH to contact AL/SJW about possible conflabs concerning UKIDSSDR and UHS curation. Conflab scheduled for around 2:30pm on the Thursday 31/5. Actions partly discharged but continuing: ----------------------------------------- ACTION: ETWS to copy over the WISE all-sky DR flat files from IPAC This was thought to have been done but awaits confirmation from ETWS. Actions carried forward from 11/05/12 meeting --------------------------------------------- ACTION: RPB to set up WSA mirror/sync for flat file DBs using MS SQL replication. Continues. ACTION: ETWS, with RPB, to develop an automated helper script to keep release DB files links updated. Continues; this one still has low priority. ACTION: RPB to complete the LTO-5 tape backups of VVV and SSA DBs and SSS flat file datasets. Continues; the card and tape drive seem to be working and RPB is carrying out some test backups. These tests are running slowly but this might be down to the VVV release. Specific points and new actions: -------------------------------- Project management: RGM noted that the expected MonetDB placement had accepted a job elsewhere. It was hoped that a suitable alternative could be found but that they would be less of an astronomy expert though at least they would not have to be smuggled into the country. ACTION: RSC to scope out the areas/situations where we'd like to test MonetDB i.e. where do the current bottlenecks lie? RGM again raised the issue of capital expenditure limits and hardware purchases. He'd look at the projections in more detail before we explore the options of using the ECDF (Edinburgh Compute and Data Facilities) or forming an SRF. WFCAM, VISTA and VST updates: Nothing to report this time Comments and issues arising from CASU minutes: No minutes since last meeting. Networking: RPB thought that transfer speeds were still slow but ETWS would have the details. WSA/VSA/OSA/GES Operations: VSA - CU4 running on P88 (non VVV) data. GES - example data have been re-ingested following schema updates WSA - Running Koren nonSurvey releases. Hardware and Systems: Nothing of note this time. Survey Data Release: VVV is still running. The final indices on the detection table would need to be added by hand at a later stage. VIKING - a telecon had been held with Will to discuss ESO releases. It was agreed to proceed with the current ESO release leaving the data already produced in its current format. Will was informed that we would not be able to meet the requirements for list driven data products by the end of June but that we would work on it over the next 3-4 months. Will was relaxed about the timescales. VMC/VIDEO - MAR said he would check how things stand with respect to the ESO requirements. UKIDSS DR10 - QC has started. MAR reported that following a somewhat inconclusive email exchange with Phil that it was unlikely that the GPS would catch up and be included but he would try and pin him down at the workshop. Software: NJC reported he'd been implementing the requests made by Will Sutherland for future ESO releases. RSC had been working on software for the GES archive. Non-survey Data Release: Several Korean releases just in the nick of time for Myungshin Im's (Seoul National University) visit. Astrogrid deployment & Data Analysis services: MSH was away at the IVOA Interoperability meeting in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois. Miscellaneous: Richard Hook from ESO had a good visit earlier in the week. RSC would be attending the Euclid meeting in Leiden next week but hoped to make it back in time for the bulk of Friday's UKIDSS workshop. -- Scanned by iCritical.
