From nch@roe.ac.uk Tue Feb 22 08:47:10 2011 Date: Mon, 21 Feb 2011 15:12:18 +0000 (GMT) From: Nigel Hambly To: WFCAM Science Archive Team -- Eckhard Sutorius , Mike Read , Mark Holliman , Nigel Hambly , Nicholas Cross , Rob Blake , Ross Collins Cc: CCs for WSA weekly meeting minutes distribution -- Andrew Lawrence , Jim Emerson , Lorenzo Rimoldini , Mike Irwin , Bob Mann , Stephen Warren , Tom Kerr , "Noddle, Keith -- Keith Noddle" , Keith Noddle Subject: WFAU VDFS Science Archive project meeting mins, 11/02/2011 Minutes of WFAU VDFS Science Archive meeting: February 11th 2011 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Present: NCH, ETWS, MAR, NJC, RPB, MSH, RGM Apologies: JPE, AL, KTN, RSC DoNM: Friday February 25th 2011 in the Vista Hut Actions discharged this week: ----------------------------- ACTION: RSC to copy DR3 constituent reprocessed UDS frames into WFCAMOPENTIME; MAR to fettle UI and document as necessary. Discharged Actions partly discharged but continuing: ----------------------------------------- ACTION: NCH to ask RPB to look into the perennial functions permissions problem. Discussed during this meeting; DRs 6 & 7 done while DRs4 and before pending; RPB will check on the necessary T-SQL scripts/users and then communicate with RSC to insert into CU19 (ACTION RSC) ACTION: RPB to check that VHS, VIKING and VIDEO have required neighbours specified for UKIDSS-LAS and VVV for UKIDSS-GPS, VIDEOxUKIDSSUDS Continues; it was noted during the meeting that the specifications for the general external catalogue crossmatching for VMC would need updating once the latest datasets are incorporated into the archive (see above). Actions carried forward from 28/01/11 meeting --------------------------------------------- ACTION: ETWS/RPB to update WSA/VSA schemas for new keyword NICOMB Continues; decision made to wait for the next reprocessing version (1.1). ACTION: RPB to look into automated RAID monitoring across all servers. Specific points and new actions: -------------------------------- Project management: RGM noted that the MoU between VDFS (CASU/WFAU) and JAC has been adjusted for recent developments, viz. the Korean enhanced buy-in. Apparently the UKIRT Board has decided that paying customers should get top priority regarding their wishes for processing/archiving, so RGM volunteered to get clarification on the plans for any larger-scale WFCAM surveys the Koreans may have; otherwise the default position is that WFAU would continue to do as previously and create survey-like release DBs for their non-survey projects as necessary ACTION: RGM to seek clarification from Koreans on plans for their enhanced slice of WFCAM time. RGM also noted that negotiations as to WFAU contributions to offset certain payments to a certain creditor stalled over irreconcilable differences, and so we're no longer part of any deal. Phew. WFCAM & VISTA updates: No updates this week. Comments and issues arising from CASU minutes: The team noted the minutes of the meeting of 26th January. There was some amusement over the phase III deliveries note; our take on this is that only VMC and VVV have communicated their wishes to WFAU (despite all PSPIs being asked to do so at the workshop last December); UV and VIDEO to do their own thing; and requirements for VIKING and VHS are unclear. ACTION: NJC to draft a concise summary email to the PSPIs asking for clarification over WFAU phase III deliveries for VHS and VIKING, noting the requirements for VMC and VIDEO, and the default "do nowt" mode for UV and VIDEO. NJC noted that a small, but significant, issue has arisen over the new catalogue detection MJDOBS feature whereby it's hardwired to work for provenance files contained entirely within one directory, so won't work for products generated from components spread over many nights, e.g. deep tiles. Since the feature is not a requirement in such situations, the request from the WFAU end is that the new feature is simply switchable on/off if that's easy to implement. Networking: Further to the above, the team discussed the state of play of WFAU's phase III delivery developments. NCH noted the excellent TWiki pages tracking similarly excellent progress. Apart from some specific issues regarding header keys, MAR noted that there is an issue over provenance tracking of WFAU's DB-generated products with respect to nightly pipeline products delivered by CASU. This is being sorted out by email. WSA/VSA Operations: RPB and ETWS noted that VMC (incorporating the phase III deliverable fields) and VIKING (incorporating deep stacking) releases are currently underway; NJC asked that VVV should be kicked-off asap as it's likely to be a lengthy process. Some WFCAMCAL issues were discussed during the meeting; NCH reiterated that VSA should be the priority at the moment. Hardware and Systems: MSH noted that new NAS box "pedubaste" (has it been CRB checked, quipped MAR) is now up on the network. The older NAS unit osorkon has been diagnosed with a sick motherboard this week, but continues to limp along while awaiting a permanent cure. Software: RSC noted: "The release_20 branch was delivered to operations and despite numerous initial teething issues we now seem to have a pretty well functioning deep tile curation system. This now also includes an automated version numbering system for WFAU-products after a mistake led to some confusion. Further progress on the ESO-SAF data release preparation script and testing has begun in earnest now that we have a small, two-field VMC deep tile release ready. After much discussion a live software specification is now available on the internal TWiki." Survey Data Release: Nothing to report this week Non-survey Data Release: Nothing to report this week Astrogrid deployment & Data Analysis services: No news this week. Miscellaneous: RGM noted that an MSc student will be starting later in the year to look into a WSA deployment on the column-oriented storage "MonetDB". ============================================================= Nigel Hambly Tel: +44-131-668-8234 Institute for Astronomy Fax: +44-131-668-8416 School of Physics and Astronomy University of Edinburgh Email: nch@roe.ac.uk Royal Observatory Blackford Hill Edinburgh EH9 3HJ The University of Edinburgh is a charitable body, registered in Scotland, with registration number SC005336. ============================================================= -- Scanned by iCritical.
