From nch@roe.ac.uk Fri Oct 29 20:26:31 2010 Date: Fri, 29 Oct 2010 17:14:16 +0100 (BST) From: Nigel Hambly To: WFCAM Science Archive Team -- Eckhard Sutorius , Mike Read , Mark Holliman , Nigel Hambly , Nicholas Cross , Rob Blake , Ross Collins Cc: CCs for WSA weekly meeting minutes distribution -- Andrew Lawrence , Jim Emerson , Keith Noddle , Lorenzo Rimoldini , Mike Irwin , Peredur Williams , Bob Mann , Stephen Warren , Tom Kerr Subject: WFAU VDFS Science Archive meeting mins, 29/10/10 Minutes of WFAU VDFS Science Archive meeting: October 29th 2010 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Present: NCH, RSC, ETWS, MAR, RPB, NJC Apologies: JPE, AL, RGM, KTN, MSH DoNM: Friday November 12th in the Vista Hut Actions discharged this week: ----------------------------- ACTION: NCH to ask NJC if the VSA filter metadata is correct. Discharged; NCH lazily propagated MKO descriptions into JH when originally creating the VSA schema and this will be put right. ACTION: NCH to ask NJC to attend VMC telecons. Discharged Actions partly discharged but continuing: ----------------------------------------- None this week Actions carried forward from 8/10/10 meeting --------------------------------------------- ACTION: TBD to draft and MOU on behalf of PSPIs for ESO-SAF deliveries Continues; on hold until at least next PSPI teleconf, and possibly until "Phase 3" workshop at ESO. ACTION: NJC to suggest workshop at next PSPI meeting. NJC noted that he needs to liaise with JPE about the next teleconf. Specific points and new actions: -------------------------------- Project management: Nothing new this week. WFCAM & VISTA updates: No updates this week. Comments and issues arising from CASU minutes: No new minutes this week. Networking: All quiet on the networking front. WSA/VSA Operations: ETWS noted -- Created new browser pages for VSA and WSA. The latter includes the first batch of 10A non-surveys. -- Started checking availability of external catalogues for implementation into the VSA. RPB reported: "VSA data transferred and ingested up to the end of August 2010, with the exception of VVV data. This has been separated into its own database to allow ingests to continue without holding up other surveys. Work continues on this. WSA data transferred and ingested up to the end of August 2010. WSA non-surveys being created for 10A. Held up slightly by some odd behaviour calculating statistics on u10aj5. This is on hold while NJC works on a solution. In the meantime, the other non-surveys are progressing." NCH raised the issue of updates/additions to external survey databases housed at WFAU for crossmatch/crossquery purposes (prompted by a user request to update VLA-FIRST). It was agreed that the priority should be those large (10^8 to 10^9 row datasets) requested by the VISTA PIs as noted on the TWiki implementation pages http://apache.roe.ac.uk/twiki/bin/view/WFAU/VSABaselineSchemas ACTION: ETWS to review external survey updates/additions (Note after meeting: crossneighbours wrt UKIDSS sources are specified - these should be implemented) Hardware and Systems: RSC and RPB noted some disk space concerns on the non-survey public DB servers, but rationalisation of DB files has relieved the pressure for the time being. ETWS noted that an upgrade to the Starlink software needs to be tested on the linux curation servers, and that this will be done on khafre. Software: RSC noted: - Investigated and fixed a problem in the source merging code whereby it wasn't propagating the extinction co-efficients for the VISTA Ks filter - this code has now been made fully schema driven so this won't happen again. - Investigated and fixed a problem in the programme setup code for scripts where multiple programmes are setup sequentially that affected the recent 10A non-survey release - Fixed various intermittent problems with the AutoCurate process by giving the code a thoroughly good look over. - Updated CU19 to automatically grant access for the individual VISTA user accounts to their release databases now that the accounts exist on the release server, and revised user name access for non-surveys. NJC has started testing the new casutools version 1.0.6 and created the first WFAU deep tile. There are still a few issues to be solved though and the wrapper for the tiling code has to be written an tested. NJC has also modified the reset function in Automator and fixed a couple of related bugs. Survey Data Release: NCH noted that UKIDSS DR5 (at least LAS, DXS, GCS) should have gone world public in October. ACTION: RPB to make UKIDSS DR5 (sans GPS and possibly UDS) world readable Non-survey Data Release: Nothing further to RPB's notes above. Astrogrid deployment & Data Analysis services: Nothing this week. Miscellaneous: ESO PS PhaseIII workshop attendance semmingly requires some kind of nomination/invitation through PSPIs, and VMC have volunteered to nominate one person; VVV co-PI will be contacted to request a further nomination so that both ETWS and RPB can attend. Finally, NCH noted that a UKIDSS meeting has been called for 6/7 Jan at the RAS. ============================================================= Nigel Hambly Tel: +44-131-668-8234 Institute for Astronomy Fax: +44-131-668-8416 School of Physics and Astronomy University of Edinburgh Email: nch@roe.ac.uk Royal Observatory Blackford Hill Edinburgh EH9 3HJ The University of Edinburgh is a charitable body, registered in Scotland, with registration number SC005336. ============================================================= -- Scanned by iCritical.
