From nch@roe.ac.uk Fri Mar 12 16:10:51 2010 Date: Fri, 5 Mar 2010 13:51:03 +0000 (GMT) From: Nigel Hambly To: WFCAM Science Archive Team -- Eckhard Sutorius , Mike Read , Mark Holliman , Nigel Hambly , Nicholas Cross , Rob Blake , Ross Collins Cc: CCs for WSA weekly meeting minutes distribution -- Andrew Lawrence , Andy Adamson , Jim Emerson , Keith Noddle , Lorenzo Rimoldini , Mike Irwin , Peredur Williams , Bob Mann , Stephen Warren Subject: WFAU VDFS Science Archives weekly project meeting mins, 5/3/10 Minutes of WFAU VDFS Science Archive meeting: March 5th 2010 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Present: NCH, PMW, ETWS, RGM, RSC, RPB, MAR, NJC Apologies: JPE, AL, KTN, MSH DoNM: 10am, Friday March 12th 2010 in the VISTA Hut Actions discharged this week: ----------------------------- None this week. Actions partly discharged but continuing: ----------------------------------------- None this week. Actions carried forward from 26/02/10 meeting: ---------------------------------------------- ACTION: RPB & NJC (with help when required from RSC) set up cross-neighbour tables between Stripe 82 and WSA/VSA surveys as appropriate. Done for the WSA; same should be done for VISTA VHS, VIKING (& possibly VIDEO) in the VSA. Specific points and new actions: -------------------------------- Project management: The team filled in the progress chart for Feb. WFCAM & VISTA updates: Apparently both Vista and JPE survived the Chilean earthquake last weekend - thanks to the gods for that. Comments and issues arising from CASU minutes: No new mins this week. Networking: ETWS noted that transfer speeds are still up and down a bit; investigations are on-going. WSA/VSA Operations: RPB noted some testing on catalogue ingests and a significant speed-up for the SQL bulk inserts to the extent that the time required for CU4 is now more evenly split between creating the ingest binaries from the fits cats and actually bulk inserting them. RSC cautioned that any indexes in place for optimum loading may need to be dropped for later curation stages if the infamous SQL Server bookmark look-up bug is still lurking. ETWS noted: - Worked on more enhancements of the listdriven photometry code together with MAR. - Finished transferring 09B January data, which took longer than expected due to unstable transfer rates. - Finished JPG creation for 09B January, and ingests of the metadata will finish today, so that the files will be available for flat file access soon. - Updated the parser and created metadocs for DR7 for the DSA. Hardware and Systems: RPB noted that the infiniband driver updates are driving MSH nuts on the Windows systems; may have to resort to plugging them into a linux system to blow the firmware updates to get around the crapulent MS behaviour. Software: RSC noted that work on the WSA/VSA proper motion implementation continues. NJC has been working on VSA schema modifications to support some of the changes as discussed last week. TWiki notes are being made to track the changes. Survey Data Release: No news this week. Non-survey Data Release: No news this week. Astrogrid deployment & Data Analysis services: ETWS noted that the DSA metadocs for UKIDSS DR7+ have been created. MAR and ETWS have been working on mods to the list-driven analysis service to provide an option for extracting from all available images as opposed to the "best" (the latter will remain the default). Miscellaneous: 4 abstracts to NAM 2010 were submitted earlier in the week - RPB: WSA; RSC: VSA; NCH: SIA; and NJC on finding variables in the VSA synoptic surveys (particularly VVV). ============================================================= Nigel Hambly Tel: +44-131-668-8234 Institute for Astronomy Fax: +44-131-668-8416 School of Physics and Astronomy University of Edinburgh Email: nch@roe.ac.uk Royal Observatory Blackford Hill Edinburgh EH9 3HJ The University of Edinburgh is a charitable body, registered in Scotland, with registration number SC005336. =============================================================
