From nch@roe.ac.uk Fri Jan 29 16:25:16 2010 Date: Fri, 29 Jan 2010 15:01:05 +0000 (GMT) From: Nigel Hambly To: WFCAM Science Archive Team -- Eckhard Sutorius , Mike Read , Mark Holliman , Nigel Hambly , Nicholas Cross , Rob Blake , Ross Collins Cc: CCs for WSA weekly meeting minutes distribution -- Andrew Lawrence , Andy Adamson , Jim Emerson , Lorenzo Rimoldini , Mike Irwin , Peredur Williams , Bob Mann , Stephen Warren Subject: WFAU VDFS Science Archive weekly project meeting minutes 29/1/10 Minutes of WFAU VDFS Science Archive meeting: January 29th 2009 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Present: NCH, PMW, RPB, MSH, MAR, NJC, RGM, RSC Apologies: JPE, JMS, AL, ETWS DoNM: 10am, Friday February 5th 2010 in the VISTA Hut Actions discharged this week: ----------------------------- ACTION: RPB (with advice/help from RSC and ETWS) to do a VSA forward-curate test with the ingested V0.6 data. Discharged; see below. ACTION: NCH to ask GPS SH Phil Lucas about eyeball progress and likely reprocessing requirements for DR7. Discharged; eyeballing yet to commence and reprocessing requirements likely the same as for previous releases (so no synchronisation possible for GPS in DR7 with LAS/GCS/DXS for example) ACTION: MSH to create a login for RSC on horus Deprecated Actions partly discharged but continuing: ----------------------------------------- None this week Actions carried forward from 22/01/10 meeting: ---------------------------------------------- ACTION: RPB to check out availability/maturity of LTO4 drives and then liaise with PMW over purchase if required. ACTION: ETWS to point RSC to an example command application that is failing in the list-driven photometry service Specific points and new actions: -------------------------------- Project management: The new manager/technical-lead has been appointed; as yet no starting date. WFCAM & VISTA updates: MAR and NJC reported back from the very useful/interesting PSPI meeting at IoA. NCH asked that each put their summaries of issues on the TWiki for further consideration into a prioritised list of actions. The main issues affecting the archive end concerned pixel-level details of tile production and sky subtraction, catalogue extractions from tiles and operational requirements for PI DB access in the proprietary period before world release. ACTION: MAR, ETWS & NJC to put summary notes of the PSPIs meeting on the TWiki. Comments and issues arising from CASU minutes: None this week. Networking: Nothing of note this week WSA/VSA Operations: RPB noted that SVOrion and dry-run catalogue test release DBs have been created as far as possible; MAR noted that he has set up new propriety access individually and will be sending around a note to JPE and the PIs today before switching this on. Hardware and Systems: MSH noted that Microsoft have finally released more licences to the MSDNAA so we can reconfigure hatshepsut as a new DB cluster node with SQL2008. Also that Monday (first day of the month) will see some downtime on the linux curation servers as they need kernel updates. Software: RSC noted: "The recent VSA test releases allowed us to examine how well designed the software is for the demands of the VISTA surveys. I've made various fixes and together with NJC have come up some ideas to improve the curation procedure to handle the fact that all surveys will have repeated observations in at least one filter. We also need to keep an eye on table row lengths in case any exceed the 2e9 limit that we can currently outgest with bcp. Also, I've ensured, with the help of MSH & ETWS, that all of our curation servers have the updated installation of the CASU source extractor to allow NJC's recent improvements to the deep survey curation process to be released ready for UKIDSS DR7 curation. Therefore, we aspire to create a new release_14 branch of the software in time for the DXS curation run. This will also allow for more radical changes to the software in trunk, for example the switch from optional to compulsory database arguments." Survey Data Release: World release of UKIDSS DR4+ still on hold awaiting go-ahead from the GPS survey team; MAR has made a start on UKIDSS DR7 QC1. Non-survey Data Release: No news this week. Astrogrid deployment & Data Analysis services: MSH noted that following the recent site network security incident and the subsequent reinforcment of the firewall, outgoing traffic from WFAU VOSpace and Registry servers has been blocked and hence some VO services are offline at the moment. ITSG helpdesk tickets are in; watch this space... Miscellaneous: Nothing else this week. ============================================================= Nigel Hambly Tel: +44-131-668-8234 Institute for Astronomy Fax: +44-131-668-8416 School of Physics and Astronomy University of Edinburgh Email: nch@roe.ac.uk Royal Observatory Blackford Hill Edinburgh EH9 3HJ The University of Edinburgh is a charitable body, registered in Scotland, with registration number SC005336. =============================================================
