From nch@roe.ac.uk Fri Aug 29 16:26:50 2008 Date: Fri, 29 Aug 2008 15:18:12 +0100 (BST) From: Nigel Hambly To: WFCAM Science Archive Team -- Eckhard Sutorius , Mike Read , Mark Holliman , Nigel Hambly , Nicholas Cross , Rob Blake , Ross Collins Cc: CCs for WSA weekly meeting minutes distribution -- Andrew Lawrence , Andy Adamson , Brian Walshe , Jim Emerson , Malcolm Stewart , Lorenzo Rimoldini , Mike Irwin , Peredur Williams , Bob Mann , Stephen Warren Subject: WFAU VDFS Science Archive weekly project meeting minutes, 29/8/08 Minutes of WFAU VDFS Science Archive meeting: 29th August 2008 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Present: NCH, RPB, ETWS, RSC, NJC, MAR, PMW, MSH, LGR Apologies: JPE, JMS, AL, BCW, RGM DoNM: 10am, Friday 12th September 2008 in the Vista Hut Actions discharged this week: ----------------------------- None this week. Actions partly discharged but continuing: ----------------------------------------- ACTION: RPB to formulate backup plan arising from meeting Continues; RPB has made substantial progress with the TWiki documentation. Actions carried forward from 22/08/08 meeting: ---------------------------------------------- None this week. Specific points and new actions: -------------------------------- Project management: Nothing of note this week. WFCAM & VISTA updates: NCH noted that some VISTA science verification information has been forthcoming (thanks to JPE), and that the plan is for VDFS to process and archive these mini-surveys in the same way as the main public ones. ACTION: NCH, NJC and ETWS to fold SV survey info into the VSA baseline schema. Comments and issues arising from CASU fortnightly minutes: No new minutes this week. Networking: Nothing of note this week. WSA Operations: RPB and ETWS have kicked off the GPS DR4 source merging, following close out of QC (by MAR), provenance and quality error bit flagging. RPB also noted that a full backup of the WSA will took place last weekend. NCH suggested he had a quick look at ahmose to make sure there are no bloated transaction logs and/or tempdb that might get in the way of the large GPS source merging/seaming jobs over the next week. Hardware MSH noted that the oldest catalogue server JBODs comprising 146GB SCSI disks are beginning to fall off maintenance contract. The agreed forward strategy is to replace in batches of 8s with 300GB devices to expand capacity and keep as spares the older devices for in-house maintenance of further old JBODs. Software: This week NJC has produced the SynopticSource and SynopticMergeLog tables. These are tables for surveys where multi-epoch observations in multiple filters are correlated, for instance in the standard star observations. The ZYJHK(H2Br) observations will be merged at each set of observations giving colours at each epoch. NJC has also modified SetupProgrammeRequirements to allow different microstepping for each pointing. Finally NJC has been looking fixing deblended petrosian fluxes with input from Anthony Smith and David Hill and looking at creating a galaxy parameter table in the future. RSC reported continuing work on the automated non-survey release software, with a particular focus on getting the new CU6 script integrated into the release script nicely. ETWS noted implementing VISTA into the browser page parser and created new webpages accordingly in advance of presentation to the Public Survey PIs. NCH noted NJC's suggestion of enhancing the frame set association code to mix stacks/deep stacks in different filters as required by some non-survey programmes. The idea is simply to look if deep stacks are required for a given programme/filter, and select frames to be merged accordingly. RSC agreed this should be a very simple change. Survey Data Release: As noted above, forward curation of GPS for DR4 is continuing apace; NCH noted that the Nottingham UDS folks have suggested late September or early October for delivery of the UDS DR4 stack. The team noted that this may be a little later than the GPS is ready which could complicate the DR4 phase 2 release schedule. Non-survey Data Release: NCH noted that he gave the new SetupProgrammeRequirements helper a test run yesterday, and it worked perfectly. Concerning roll-out of the new non-survey support regime, ETWS noted that a few changes need to be made to CU3 and RSC noted that we need to fettle the WSA to assign programme IDs and ProgrammeFrame entries for already ingested non-survey data, then we can switch into the new regime. Astrogrid deployment & Data Analysis services LGR and PMW have tested out the first part of the online pixel analysis tool; LGR noted that he is still working on the web front end. Miscellaneous: Nothing else this week. ============================================================= Nigel Hambly Tel: +44-131-668-8234 Institute for Astronomy Fax: +44-131-668-8416 School of Physics and Astronomy University of Edinburgh Email: nch@roe.ac.uk Royal Observatory Blackford Hill Edinburgh EH9 3HJ The University of Edinburgh is a charitable body, registered in Scotland, with registration number SC005336. =============================================================
