From pmw@roe.ac.uk Mon Oct 24 13:19:03 2005 Date: Mon, 24 Oct 2005 12:36:11 +0100 From: Peredur Williams To: Nigel Hambly , Eckhard Sutorius , Johann Bryant , Mike Read , Nicholas Cross , Bob Mann , Ross Collins Cc: Andrew Lawrence , Andy Adamson , John Taylor , Jim Emerson , Malcolm Stewart , Martin Hill , Mike Irwin , Stephen Warren , Peredur Williams Subject: WFAU WSA weekly project meeting: 21 October 2005 Minutes of WFCAM Science Archive meeting: 21st October 2005 ------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------- Present: MAR, AL, JB, RSC, PMW Apologies: MCH, RGM, JPE, JDT, NCH, ETWS, JMS, NJC DONM: 10am, Friday 28th October 2005, plate library; NCH in the chair Actions discharged: ------------------- None this week. Actions partly discharged but continuing: ----------------------------------------- None this week. Actions carried forward from 28/09/05 meeting: ---------------------------------------------- ACTION: NCH to investigate the usefulness of a NAS solution for medium term archive mass storage. - CONTINUES Specific points and new actions: -------------------------------- WFCAM update: See the stop press pages linked from the TWiki for latest news. Networking and Archive operation: JB reported that the download problem was related to writing of the logfile and that he was about to try ingestion with CU3 and CU4. ACTION: JB and RSC liaise to ensure use of latest version of CU3, sans memory leak. There had been a hiccup with e-mail communication to off-site SSA users following the upgrade of the mail server but this was now fixed (tested by MAR and PMW last night). PMW reported that he and JB had attended a meeting with Peter Clarke, David Salmon (UKERNA), Clive Davenhall, George Howat, HME, JNTD and RGM to discuss possible use of UKLight for WFCAM/VISTA data transfer between WFAU and CASU. UKLight is by and large separate from the JANET IP network and is just a circuit on which one could run UDP protocols, for instance. Agreed that looking into using UKLight for data transfer was a natural part of the WFCAM-to-VISTA data scalability studies being planned for the next six months leading up to the incremental design review next year. It was agreed that PMW would get in touch with Pete Bunclark, named as CASU contact by MJI, and give David Salmon Pete's contact details. Hardware: All fine. Software: MAR has completed cross-ID (matching user-supplied coordinate lists to catalogues) task and invited PMW to try it. ACTION: PMW to try new cross-ID tool. Data Release: Pending; awaiting reprocessing, retransfer & reingest of SV1 & 2 data. AL noted that the data (Science Verification and routine survey data) release schedule was of increasing interest to the UKIDSS consortium members and that the SV process and status needed to be clarified. Astrogrid deployment: Nothing new this week. Miscellaneous: UKIRT Board Meeting November 17th ------------------------------------------------------------------- Peredur Williams, Institute for Astronomy, University of Edinburgh Royal Observatory, e-mail: pmw@roe.ac.uk Blackford Hill, fax: (+44) 131 668 8416 Edinburgh EH9 3HJ www: http://www.roe.ac.uk/~pmw phone: (+44) 131 668 8300 (University exchange: 75-300) -------------------------------------------------------------------
