From nch@roe.ac.uk Fri May 13 12:05:20 2005 Date: Fri, 13 May 2005 11:05:02 +0100 (BST) From: Nigel Hambly To: WFCAM Science Archive Team -- Eckhard Sutorius , Mike Read , Nigel Hambly , Nicholas Cross , Bob Mann Cc: CCs for WSA weekly meeting minutes distribution -- Andrew Lawrence , Andy Adamson , John Taylor , Jim Emerson , Malcolm Stewart , Martin Hill , Mike Irwin , Peredur Williams , Stephen Warren Subject: WFAU WSA weekly meeting minutes: 13th May 2005 Minutes of WFCAM Science Archive meeting: 13th May 2005 ------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------- Present: NCH, NJC, PMW, MAR, JMS Apologies: MCH, AL, RGM, JPE, ETWS DONM: 10am, Friday 20th May 2005, plate library Actions discharged: ------------------- ACTION: NJC to distribute the first draft of the global photometric calibration document by close of play today (Friday 6th May). Discharged; NCH has been through the doc, and NJC is now fettling it before a wider distribution to interested parties. Actions partly discharged but continuing: ----------------------------------------- ACTION: NCH to write a tutorial on how to query cross-matched data in the WSA for the web pages. Continues: NCH has started this (see below). Actions carried forward from 6/05/05 meeting: ---------------------------------------------- None this week. Specific points and new actions: -------------------------------- Project management: PMW noted that 25 applications have been received so far for the unfilled developer post (archive operator particulars are currently with UoE HR). NCH noted that he has received an invitation to attend the next UKIRT Board meeting in May (26th in Cambridge) to give an update, along with MJI, on WFCAM processing and archiving. WFCAM update: Routine UKIDSS observing has started today! Comments and issues arising from CASU fortnightly minutes: The team noted the minutes of the meeting of 5/5/2005. NCH and ETWS noted that there are 10 nights of phase-I commissioning data reprocessed by CASU: 8-11, 14, 26-30 November. These reprocessed data are being transfered up to WFAU and will form the next release to UKIDSS within the next week or so. Networking: Nothing new this week. Hardware: All archive hardware are functioning normally. Software: NCH reported work on CUs 7 (source merging), 16 (external catalogue joining) and 19 (data product release). These are all being tested using the latest commissioning data, and are working well. ETWS has been working on CU5 (default difference image products - i.e. H2-K images for the UKIDSS GPS). NJC continues to develop the global photometric calibration procedure and core codes. MAR has been looking at a queued query system to alleviate possible heavy loading on the public data server. Data Release: NCH noted the impending release of reprocessed comms-I data to UKIDSS, and the fact that there are significant gaps in the online documentation. NCH is working on a rehash of the SSA Cookbook which will go some way to enlightening users (e.g. cross-querying between WFCAM and external catalogue data like 2MASS and SDSS), but the web pages could do with the Data Overview being fleshed out. ACTION: MAR to flesh out the "Data Overview" web pages for the WSA. SSA: Nothing new this week Astrogrid deployment: No news this week. Miscellaneous: NCH noted that he, RGM and PMW had had a constructive meeting with Arthur Trew and Linda S. from UoE Parallel Computing Centre concerning some collaborative studies employing the Storage Area Network and associated high-performance systems/DBMS (DB2). A tentative project plan has been fleshed out by RGM and NCH, with a view to instigating some scale-out studies (e.g. for VISTA data volumes, i.e. VDFS v4).
