From nch@roe.ac.uk Mon Feb 28 15:10:09 2005 Date: Mon, 28 Feb 2005 15:04:21 +0000 (GMT) From: Nigel Hambly To: WFCAM Science Archive Team -- Eckhard Sutorius , Mike Read , Nigel Hambly , Nicholas Cross , Bob Mann Cc: CCs for WSA weekly meeting minutes distribution -- Andrew Lawrence , Andy Adamson , John Taylor , Jim Emerson , Malcolm Stewart , Martin Hill , Mike Irwin , Peredur Williams , Stephen Warren Subject: WFAU WSA weekly meeting minutes: 25 February 2005 Minutes of WFCAM Science Archive meeting: 25th February 2005 ------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------- Present: NCH, PMW, ETWS, NJC, JMS Apologies: MCH, JPE, MAR, JDT, AL, RGM DONM: 10am, Friday 4th March 2005, plate library Actions discharged: ------------------- ACTION: ETWS to put (or link) ACD's network document on the WSA TWiki. Discharged - document linked on the TWiki. ACTION: ETWS to submit a helpdesk to get IT Support (i.e. HME) to set up new server "sneferu" with a single account scos and it's 3 RAID arrays NFS exported to djoser and thoth. Discharged: helpdesk ticket in, and assigned to HME. Actions partly discharged but continuing: ----------------------------------------- ACTION: MAR & NCH to check out SQL Server networked server functionality for cross-server querying. Continues; NCH suggested we should do some experiments with the linked SQL Servers ahmose & amenhotep once the dust has settled on their reorganisation over the next couple of weeks. - all continuing; thanks for progressing these. Actions carried forward from 18/02/05 meeting: ---------------------------------------------- None this week. Specific points and new actions: -------------------------------- Project management: NCH reported that the case for archive operations was presented to the WFAU grant review panel on Wednesday. This was well received; PMW noted that we can expect feedback within two weeks, but the timescale for a grant announcement (or even just receipt of a letter promising a grant!) is unknown. PMW will continue to press for rapid progress on this matter. NCH noted that VDUC seemed to go well. JMS prompted a discussion on the plans for a VDFS UK review: clearly a VDFS v4 design review should occur before large amounts of effort are expended on it. Given the commencement of WFCAM operations, the schedule needs looking at again. NCH suggested that the existing documentation should be updated asap anyway, regardless of the timing of a review, and the team agreed this was a good idea. After some discussions surrounding the likely schedule of work over the next few months, the conclusion was to suggest to VDMT that a review take place no sooner than late summer/early autumn so that feedback from a "significant" amount of WSA usage can be folded into the procedure. WFCAM update: Nothing new this week. Comments and issues arising from CASU fortnightly minutes: New minutes circulated just after this meeting; these will be discussed at next week's meeting. Networking: At VDUC, JRL indicated that updated 80-parameter catalogue FITS files should be available within a few days. NCH noted that we should have a look at the latest raw MEFs generated and made available by MR at CASU and send any comments back to him asap. ACTION: NCH & ETWS to take a look at the latest raw MEF headers and send any comments back to MR at CASU. Hardware: Online archive hardware continues to function normally. Software: NCH has resumed development of the list-driven photometry DB infrastructure (CU9) as well as dealing with various deployment issues as they crop up with ETWS. NJC has been looking at the details of global photometric recalibration models and solutions. ETWS has continued to work on ingest and operator GUI shake-down, including fixing a load of IAB's remaining "to-do"s and enhancing the operator GUI. SSA: No news this week. Astrogrid deployment: No news this week. Miscellaneous: The issue of NAM'05 has arisen again, since it now seems that CASU are submitting an abstract on VDFS pipeline processing. RGM raised the issue of the Euro-VO workshop meeting (in Garching in the summer) last weekend. NCH noted that until a reasonably complete programme for the week is announced, we are reluctant to commit any effort to attending this. Apparently a programme is under development, and the registration deadline has been extended to allow for this to be available to interested parties. The team agreed to keep an eye on the situation.
