From nch@roe.ac.uk Thu Feb 17 09:43:11 2005 Date: Fri, 11 Feb 2005 11:21:19 +0000 (GMT) From: Nigel Hambly To: WFCAM Science Archive Team -- Eckhard Sutorius , Mike Read , Nigel Hambly , Nicholas Cross , Bob Mann Cc: CCs for WSA weekly meeting minutes distribution -- Andrew Lawrence , Andy Adamson , John Taylor , Jim Emerson , Malcolm Stewart , Martin Hill , Mike Irwin , Peredur Williams , Stephen Warren Subject: WFAU WSA weekly meeting minutes: 11 February 2005 Minutes of WFCAM Science Archive meeting: 11th February 2005 ------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------- Present: NCH, PMW, ETWS, NJC, MAR, JDT, JMS Apologies: MCH, JPE, AL, RGM DONM: 10am, Friday 18th February 2005, plate library Actions discharged: ------------------- ACTION: NCH to check out the computer/network facilities in the management meeting room for VDUC. Discharged: There is a networked laptop in the room. Actions partly discharged but continuing: ----------------------------------------- ACTION: MAR & NCH to check out SQL Server networked server functionality for cross-server querying. Continues; NCH suggested we should do some experiments with the linked SQL Servers ahmose & amenhotep once the dust has settled on their reorganisation over the next couple of weeks. ACTION: ETWS to put (or link) ACD's network document on the WSA TWiki. Continues: (still) awaiting the finished article from ACD. - all continuing; thanks for progressing these. Actions carried forward from 4/02/05 meeting: ---------------------------------------------- None this week. Specific points and new actions: -------------------------------- Project management: NCH noted that preparations for the VDUC meeting are in hand. ACTION: PMW to book a computer projector for use on the day. NCH asked for comments on his draft blurb for the UKIRT newsletter. Some discussion ensued concerning inclusion of the final URL for the archive; PMW will suggest some words. Comments were also received from RGM. NCH will edit and send the text to JAC. WFCAM update: NCH noted that the JAC WFCAM status pages are now linked from the WSA TWiki topic. News this week is that all systems are go for cooldown commencing 21 Feb. Comments and issues arising from CASU fortnightly minutes: No new minutes this week. Networking: Nothing new this week. Hardware: NCH noted that all is quiet on the catalogue server front; also the new file server Sneferu (5.2 TB, not 4.8 as previously minuted) is being assembled at Eclipse and delivery is expected shortly. Software: NCH noted that he has been unable to devote any time to software this week (GAIA workshop; VST proposal data maganement plans for VDFS and preparation for the RG review panel meeting in Cambridge). MAR reported mainly working on the form/servlet for serving up a listing of the archive contents. Also worked on giving the WSA web pages and the browser pages the same look. ETWS has been testing the image metadata ingest tool CU3; all is ready now for processed data as far as we can tell. NJC has been working on photometric recalibration procedures (CU8). NCH suggested we have a brain-storming meeting next week to review the process. ACTION: NJC, NCH, ETWS (with invites to RGM and JAP) to meet on Tuesday 15th 2pm Plate Library to have a photometric recalibration brain storming session. SSA: No news this week. Astrogrid deployment: JDT gave an update on community deployment. Some worries concerning scalability etc. suggest that the backup plan (MAR ad hoc SW solution organised in the same way as AG communities) may be necessary. NCH suggested that we should review the situation next week and make a go/no-go decision then, since JDT will be on holiday for the following few weeks and we need an access system in place for a limited number of UKIDSS folks to look at processed commissioning data. JDT also noted the new Greater AstroGrid (GAG) concept, and the necessity for greater integration with the data centres. This all seems fine from the point of view of the WSA team, since we have been working closely together anyway. Miscellaneous: Nothing else this week.
