Discharged; see Astrogrid Deployment below. Actions partly discharged but continuing: ----------------------------------------- ACTION: MAR to check out SQL Server networked server functionality for cross-server querying. Continues; NCH suggested we should do some experiments with the linked SQL Servers ahmose & amenhotep once the dust has settled on their reorganisation over the next couple of weeks. ACTION: NCH to remember to action a team programmer to implement range checking in the low-level ingest codes. ETWS & NCH have been discussing this; likely that the new developer will be assigned this task to start them off. - continuing; thanks for progressing these. Actions carried forward from 10/12/04 meeting: ---------------------------------------------- None this week. Specific points and new actions: -------------------------------- Project management: NCH noted that the new team members would be arriving in January; NJGC will be sharing office space with ETWS; IMC will share with GPS. NCH & PMW are still working on the VDFS v2-5 WP breakdown, and will pass this on to JMS within the next few days. Finally, PMW noted the next VDMT face-to-face (Edinburgh) on the 6th Jan. Reports will be produced when we return in the new year. WFCAM update: No news this week. Comments and issues arising from CASU fortnightly minutes: No new minutes as of 17/12/04 am. Networking: NCH noted that no input has been received from JAC or the UKIRT Board concerning vetting of UKIDSS users that wish to register for access to the WSA. ETWS noted that there is a NeSC GridFTP 3-day workshop in January; given other more important matters and the fact that we have a workable network solution from CASU, it was felt that attendance from the WSA team was not necessary (especially if one or tow bods from the VO Team attend). Hardware: PMW noted that new air conditioning is being installed in C1 now; NCH noted that Eclipse will be in on Monday 20th to reconfigure the second catalogue server ("ahmose", now the load server). Software: NCH has finished off CU19/20 this week; all codes are checked into the CVS. There are some remaining issues concerning the mechanics of automatically detaching/attaching DBs and shifting files between the load and public catalogue servers; for the time being this will be assumed to be an interactive procedure (probably safer that way anyway). ETWS has continued to work on CU13/14; the CASU source extraction tool remains to be integrated (ESO documentation deadline is currently highest priority at CASU). MAR has continued user interface work, and has begun to deploy a user registration implementation on the WSA. SSA: No news this week. Astrogrid deployment: NCH noted that many team members had attended the Astrogrid consortium/demo meeting earlier in the week. The SSA deployment of 2MASS was used in a demonstration; all appeared to go well. This was part of a workflow demo, and so discharges the outstanding action on testing the PAL deployment. JDT noted that he has now deployed a static mini-Astrogrid on grendel for (invitation only) testing. This includes MySpace, portal, registry and other servers. A WFAU test account will be set up to enable WSA team members to test out the system. Miscellaneous: RGM noted an AO from Microsoft in Cambridge where funds are available that could support a research studentship; he suggested a datamining studentship case could be submitted to this and should have a good chance of being funded given our existing connections with MS.
