From nch@roe.ac.uk Fri Sep 3 13:46:58 2004 Date: Fri, 3 Sep 2004 10:50:43 +0100 (BST) From: Nigel Hambly To: WFCAM Science Archive Team -- Eckhard Sutorius , Harvey MacGillivray , Ian Bond , Mike Read , Nigel Hambly , Bob Mann Cc: CCs for WSA weekly meeting minutes distribution -- Clive Davenhall , Andrew Lawrence , Andy Adamson , Peter Shillan , John Taylor , Jim Emerson , Malcolm Stewart , Martin Hill , Mike Irwin , Peredur Williams Subject: WFAU WSA weekly meeting minutes, 3rd September 2004 Minutes of WFCAM Science Archive meeting: 3rd September 2004 ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ Present: NCH, MAR, ETWS, Apologies: JPE, AL, MCH, RGM, JMS, GPS, JDT, HMG, PMW DONM: 10am, Friday 17th September, plate library (NCH is on leave on the 10th) Actions discharged: ------------------- None this week. Actions partly discharged but continuing: ----------------------------------------- ACTION: PMW to apply a little pressure to the premises team to solve the continuing problem of heat overload in C1. PMW reported bringing this up at the site services meeting this week; a quote has been obtained for additional airconditioning; action continues. ACTION: ALL to review risk register and think of any new internal or external risks that should be documented in the risk register. Defered until top level plan is explicitly defined. PMW tabled the VISTA risk register as an example. ACTION: JPE to design and set up centralised VDFS web pages. Progressing. (there is now a link to it from our WSA Twiki). - continuing; thanks for progressing these. Actions carried forward from 27/08/04 meeting: ----------------------------------------------- ACTION: NCH to remember to action a team programmer to implement range checking in the low-level ingest codes. CONTINUES ACTION: JDT to liaise with MCH concerning an end-to-end test of the PAL deployment. CONTINUES Specific points and new actions: -------------------------------- Project management: NCH noted that the VDMT monthly telecon is arranged for this afternoon. PMW has produced the usual report chart, and NCH has produced the usual blurb. Comments and issues arising from CASU fortnightly minutes: The meeting (such as it was) noted the minutes of the meeting of the 26th August; there were no matter arising. Networking: NCH noted that CASU have prepared another round of test data for DB ingest testing. Hardware: Good news: NCH reported that the 4xMegaRAID U320 solution on amenhotep appears to be working now; trawl speed is only 15% slower than the old home-brew software RAID system currently deployed on ahmose. The new configuration is, moreover, fault-tolerant so 15% loss in speed seems a small price to pay. Expansion capability is much better with the RAID adapters, so all in all it looks like a much better solution. NCH noted that seeing as both catalogue servers now need to be brought up to scratch viz. the new configuration, we may as well take this opportunity to expand them as well with an additional 2 TB of storage and rehouse so as to leave room for further expansion in the medium term. Expansion of djoser should also be looked at at the same time to minimise disruption once WFCAM data has started to flow. Software: MAR reported: "Wrote a couple of classes to manage the SQL retriever threads and objects. As hoped this can be used to show status of running queries and attempt to abort them. Also still going through existing code adding and repackaging it with Javadocs" NCH and ETWS have been working hard on the ingest C++ applications for CU7 which are now very close to working. SSA: No further news this week. Astrogrid deployment: No news this week. Miscellaneous: Nothing further this week.
