From nch@roe.ac.uk Wed Mar 24 00:20:10 2004 Date: Fri, 19 Mar 2004 16:58:14 +0000 (GMT) From: Nigel Hambly To: WFCAM Science Archive Team -- Eckhard Sutorius , Harvey MacGillivray , Ian Bond , Mike Read , Nigel Hambly , Bob Mann Cc: CCs for WSA weekly meeting minutes distribution -- Clive Davenhall , Andrew Lawrence , Andy Adamson , Peter Shillan , John Taylor , Jim Emerson , Martin Hill , Mike Irwin , Peredur Williams Subject: WFAU WSA weekly meeting minutes, 19th March 2004 Minutes of WFCAM Science Archive meeting: 19th March 2004 ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ Present: MAR, RGM, NCH, ETWS, MCH, PMW, IAB Apologies: JPE, HMG, JMS, GPS, AL, JDT DONM: 10am, Friday 26th March 2004, plate library. Actions discharged: ------------------- ACTION: RGM to send details of Microsoft support bod to NCH. Discharged ACTION: NCH, RGM & MAR to meet Monday 2pm to close out the deployment of the full SSA. Discharged - see SSA below. Actions partly discharged but continuing: ----------------------------------------- ACTION: ALL to review risk register and think of any new internal or external risks that should be documented in the risk register. Defered until top level plan is explicitly defined. PMW tabled the VISTA risk register as an example. ACTION: JPE to design and set up centralised VDFS web pages. Progressing. (there is now a link to it from our WSA Twiki). - continuing; thanks for progressing these. Actions carried forward from 12/03/04 meeting: ----------------------------------------------- None. Specific points and new actions: -------------------------------- Project management: PMW and RGM suggested that moving these meetings may help the VO boys to attend; NCH vetoed this proposition, emphasising that the meetings should not become the only forum where developers in different teams can communicate. PMW pointed out that we should put the finishing touches to the Q2'04 plan next week. NCH asked who has the VDFS URD; all the team have read it and it is now finally with ACD. Comments and issues arising from CASU fortnightly minutes: No new minutes this week. Networking: Nothing new this week. Hardware: Eclipse have gone quiet again, after reporting no progress on the Ultra320 problem. MAR suggested we should perhaps consider using different controllers (eg. LSI) if Google searches indicate that others have had similar propblems and solved them with the most recent updates to BIOS and controller firmware. RGM stated that he had recently spoken with Andy Knox again, and that the latter suggested that what we are seeing may be simply a fundamental problem with Ultra320 and many disks; in any case, Andy Knox has kindly (re)offered to be of help if he can. Meanwhile, server ahmose had a burst of errors last Friday which caused MS SQL Server Query Analyser to crash, and yet ahmose has been quite stable since. Software: IAB reported that CU3/4 have progressed as far as they can without having more test (calibration) frames and, in fact, real data frames. IAB suggested we move on to CU2, refactor CU16 in the light of SSA experience and using the WSA curation and load servers, and then progress on to CU8. ETWS reported major updates to the schema parsing scripts (eg. highlighting of indexed attributes in the DB object browser). These have been tested on the WSA and used to produce the deployment browser documentation for the SSA. SSA: NCH reported that the SSA is now ready. It has been backed up and verified (2.5 Tbytes). NCh requested that RGM & MAR and he have a final deployment meeting immediately after this meeting to go over the final outstanding issues raised previously. Miscellaneous: Nothing else this week.
