From nch@roe.ac.uk Fri Jan 23 15:04:26 2004 Date: Fri, 23 Jan 2004 14:45:08 +0000 (GMT) From: Nigel Hambly To: WFCAM Science Archive Team -- Eckhard Sutorius , Harvey MacGillivray , Ian Bond , Mike Read , Nigel Hambly , Bob Mann Cc: CCs for WSA weekly meeting minutes distribution -- Clive Davenhall , Andrew Lawrence , Andy Adamson , Peter Shillan , John Taylor , Jim Emerson , Martin Hill , Mike Irwin , Peredur Williams Subject: WFAU WSA weekly meeting minutes, 23rd January 2004 Minutes of WFCAM Science Archive meeting: 23rd January 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------- Present: MAR, JMS, NCH, IAB, ETWS, RGM, PMW Apologies: JPE, HTMG, AL, MCH, GPS, JDT DONM: 10am, Friday 30th January 2004, plate library. Actions discharged: ------------------- ACTION: IAB to check that all necessary SW for curation client functionality is present on djoser. Done. Actions partly discharged but continuing: ----------------------------------------- ACTION: ALL to review risk register and think of any new internal or external risks that should be documented in the risk register. Defered until top level plan is explicitly defined. PMW tabled the VISTA risk register as an example. ACTION: RGM to progress design of a web cookbook based around the 20 Queries. ACTION: JPE to design and set up centralised VDFS web pages. Progressing. (there is now a link to it from our WSA Twiki). ACTION: NCH to attend PPRP meeting on 4/2/04 to make ANOTHER presentation as to science archive progress and forward plan. - continuing; thanks for progressing these. Actions carried forward from 16/01/04 meeting: ----------------------------------------------- None. Specific points and new actions: -------------------------------- Project management: NCH has inquired with JPE as to the venue/timing/requirements for the PPRP meeting on Feb 4th. No reply as yet (suspect JPE has asked for the agenda etc. from PPARC and is awaiting a response...). NCH reminded everyone on the team that the small email summary reports of work done have not been forthcoming recently; these are very helpful in typing up these minutes and in prompting discussion during the meetings. PMW has been revisiting the Q1'04 plan and will be discussing this with individuals involved. Comments and issues arising from CASU fortnightly minutes: No new minutes as of 23/1/04. Networking: Nothing new this week. Hardware: NCH reported that there was as yet no news as to the Ultra320 SCSI problems which have resurfaced. A lengthy discussion ensued as to the best way forward now that the issue has become quite critical. It was decided to press on with deployment of the terabyte server, at the same time leaning on Eclipse to do more to help diagnose and rectify the problems. NCH emphasised that JNTD is doing everything he can to try to sort out the problems. ACTION: NCH & PMW to lean on Eclipse to try to resolve the current hardware difficulties. Software: NCH asked IAB and ETWS to meet with him next Wed afternoon for a second software integration session, now that ingest software infrastructure is installed and working on djoser/ahmose. ACTION: NCH, IAB & ETWS to meet on Wed 28th pm to further iterate the integration and testing of the ingest software. NCH noted that HME has installed ViewCVS and that this all appears to be working as before, so as far as the group is concerned the CVS is back to normal. ETWS reported major difficulties in getting mxODBC working between the linux curation client djoser and the Windows SQL Server ahmose. NCH suggested that for the time being at least we should progress using the DB Interface layer "PyMSSQL" and address problems as/when they arise. SSA: NCH reported that the SSA is nearly ready to go, pending creation of indices (this is being made difficult by the instability of the disk systems - see Hardware above). A table of Galactic co-ordinates has been created for reliable and efficient querying of galaxy samples. RGM reported that the cookbook will be ready for distribution to the other team members by Monday. ACTION: RGM to distribute the SSA User cookbook on Monday to NCH, MAR, ETWS and PMW and those people to read and get comments and suggestions back to RGM before the next weekly meeting. Miscellaneous: Nothing else this week.
