From pmw@roe.ac.uk Fri Nov 7 17:15:54 2003 Date: Fri, 7 Nov 2003 15:17:23 -0000 From: Peredur Williams To: Nigel Hambly , Eckhard Sutorius , Harvey MacGillivray , Ian Bond , Mike Read , Bob Mann , Andrew Lawrence Cc: Peredur Williams , Andy Adamson , Jim Emerson , Mike Irwin , Malcolm Stewart Subject: WFAU WSA weekly meeting minutes: 7 November 2003 Minutes of WFCAM Science Archive meeting: 7th November 2003 ----------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------- Present: ETWS, RGM, HTMG, IAB, PMW, AL, MAR Apologies: NCH, JPE, JMS Actions discharged: ------------------- ACTION: NCH, IAB, ETWS & MAR to meet Tues to plan some ingestion tests using CIRSI data. - (see Software below) ACTION: NCH to release ICD Issue 3. (on WWW page) ACTION: PMW to speak to HMG to speak to Ron concerning the power supplies in C1 to the aircon and WSA hardware, and to check that djoser is powered through a UPS. - (see Hardware below) ACTION: MAR to liaise with JNTD concerning the transfer of the new catalogue servers onto the WSA PAN, and to change test DB connectivity from thoth. - It was expected that the change over would be done this afternoon, or early next week. Actions partly discharged but continuing: ----------------------------------------- ACTION: ALL to review risk register and think of any new internal or external risks that should be documented in the risk register. Defered until top level plan is explicitly defined. PMW tabled the VISTA risk register as an example. ACTION: RGM to progress design of a web cookbook based around the 20 Queries. Progressing ACTION: JPE to design and set up centralised VDFS web pages. Progressing. (there is now a link to it from our WSA Twiki). ACTION: PMW to produce a progress GANTT and send to JPE. - Discussed with JPE and new top-level Gantt sent, continuing. - continuing; thanks for progressing these. Actions from 31/10/03 meeting: ---------------------------------------------- ACTION: ETWS to contact Guy Rixon concerning a new GridFTP test. Awaiting installation of GridFTP on djoser; would consult Guy as to best version to install. ACTION: ETWS to propagate ICD Issue 3 changes into WSA schemas. Progressing, see below. ACTION: ETWS to again approach HME concerning system access to djoser. Open ACTION: ETWS to produce a NonSurveyDetSchema for the WSA to curate non-survey default catalogue data. - Progressing ACTION: NCH to stage intermediate Source files in thoth, and email Francois Oschenbien at CDS when the first file(s) is/are ready for transfer. ACTION: RGM to chase up the SDSS DR1 "sneaker net" boxes and check that Edinburgh is on the grand tour itinerary. ----------------------------------------------- Hardware: HTMG had discussed power supply to the WSA servers with Brian Sainsbury, and had agreed, also with Ron Lambert, that the racks could have power supplies independent of the C1 trip switch. They had concluded that the fans in the Server racks were adequate to keep the equipment cool even if the air conditioning was switched off, as power to the air conditioning could not easily be removed from C1 trip-switch control. We should therefore get a UPS for djoser as well. ACTION: HTMG to get a quote for UPS for djoser Software: IAB reported: IAB, NCH, and ETWS discussed plans for building a prototype WSA using dummy data supplied by CASU. Curation use cases CU1-4 will be tested first as these involve ingestion of image metadata and detected sources. The data base table creation sql fragments are in place on the CVS, as is the architecture, written mainly in python, that will drive the ingestion process. Building a prototype archive is part of the development process for the WSA software architecture as this exercise will identify those parts of the architecture that are working and will reveal any new issues that need to be dealt with. ETWS reported: he has replaced the tables Source in the schemas for the five UKIDSS programmes with two tables, PointSource and ExtdSource. Also the remeasured source tables (SouRem) has been replaced with PointSouRem and ExtdSouRem. Consistency with ICD #3 for the corresponding FITS binary table details for each catalogue attribute has been checked during this re-writing of the schemas. Colours and proper motion data attributes have been included as well. The 2MASS schemas and all parsing scripts involved has been changed to 'TWOMASS' since, though it is possible to create a database starting with a number from the GUI, it is not possible to work on it from schema scripts. MAR reported: Produced an SQL script that sets up the user, permisssions and functions required by the User-Interface side of thing (place in CVS). Tested querying ahmose and amenhotep from servlets running on grendel12. Management: PMW reported on the VDFS Management group's monthly meeting on the 5th: (JPE, MJI, RGMcM, STH in Cambridge, JMS and PMW on phone here) Mike Irwin would provide us with new simulated WFCAM data, compressed CIRSI data with updated FITS headers. Jim was keen to have demonstrable functionality by the end of the year: our bits would be SSA to demonstrate catalogue functionality, and basic CU tasks. There was pressure to have a User Committee and much discussion of its terms of reference, function and membership: Jim would circulate new draft of these to group members before taking the proposals further with the hope of having something in place by the next GSC meeting. There was discussion of budgets: we and CASU were asked to revisit our bids in the VEGA proposal and also let Jim know spend since April 2002. DoNM: In view of absence of NCH on 14th and 21st but presence in between, provisionally for 10am, Wednesday 19th November, plate library. PMW
