Comments on WFAU minutes 3. Hardware update 4. Meetings and telecons 5. Data archives update 6. Optical/NIR processing 7. WFCAM update 8. VISTA update 9. AOB Minutes ======= 1. Actions from the last meeting -------------------------------- AKY - compare Henry's deep stack with our equivalent <<<< STH - has put 2MASS JHKs -> i-band predictor information on web pages AKY - has finished off the flat-field properties investigations AKY - add captions to the results figures and plonk them online <<<< JRL - investigate using a "rolling" master linearity correction <<<< JRL - fixed the 20101225 # of images faux pas All - work ongoing re pawprint QC provenance info in tile headers. Need to be implemented at the grouting stage. JRL to create example. <<<< SC - see if Gaia monitoring web pages can be resuscitated <<<< SC - progress ongoing with Ubuntu/Debian upgrade for Blades <<<< JRL - has set up VISTA P87 directories and web page MJI - we have a new header keyword to record the number of potential 2MASS JRL astrometric standards in the detector footprint. Numaval (pending) EGS - check how often the WCS convergence problem seems to have occured for MR VISTA by comparing # of matched stds for each detector <<<< MJI - has finished off nebulising the select DR8 GPS data MJI - has written and sent off UKIRT Board report EGS - found out the VVV tile without "tmp" is mot a one off MJI - has contacted VVV team to get examples of astrometrix faux pas 2. Comments on WFAU Minutes --------------------------- They seem to be getting less frequent! 3. Hardware Update ------------------ Nothing has been bought / broken / fixed / improved etc... 4. Meetings and Telecons ------------------------ 31/05/11: The VMC Skypecon has been moved to Tuesday 31st May. 06/06/11: JRL will attend the 'VISTA Survey Operations end-to-end Review" at ESO on June 6th. 08/06/11: The IOT telecon will be at 14:00 on June 8th. It'd be good to have the zpts done by then once we have the next data disk (JRL, AKY). <<<< 18/07/11: The Galactic Plane Survey meeting takes place in Hertfordshire. It runs for a week making its way from nIR to optical. 23-28/05/11: Cambridge beer festival, Jesus Green. The ESO in-kind software contribution saga continues to roll. At least ESO+CASU have reached agreement on their part. However, ESO and STFC lawyers are now on the case. Everything needs to be agreed before the ESO council meeting in early June if it's to be ratified. 5. Data archives update ----------------------- There's a whole host of problems with the ING data from 1999 - 2000 including missing files, files with the wrong structure etc... Why is it so bad? MJI, JRL and EGS will meet to thrash it out. <<<< 6. Optical/NIR processing ------------------------- There've been many more requests for INT camera processing. The VST is acquiring data. It should be commisioned by (our) summer and surveys are planned to start in September. We'd like to get our hands on the data to get a feel for it. JRL is on the case... <<<< 7. WFCAM update --------------- There's been very little data taken since the beginning of May due to particularly bad weather. MR has spent 5 days trawling through and fixing headers for WCS errors up to 3 orders of magnitude. Strangely enough, they all passed the QC sin problema?! UKIRT has been extended for 2012 - 2013. It seems that as long as JCMT is running, UKIRT will operate. MJI realised that he'd copied the raw data from 27th and processed it as the 30th. Oops. He's fixed it now and chacked there were no other. 8.VISTA update -------------- We have disk data for 6 - 12th May with a few flat fields and linearity sequences. Hopefull the next disk will arive by Friday. When there's enough data we need to do a comparison between the zpts from the silver coated mirror vs the aluminised mirror. What is the difference between the coatings? MJI could find little to no information online about the reflectivity of aluminium coated mirrors as a function of wavelength. Luckily, Paul Hewitt had wondered the same a while ago and sourced an old book from the library which shed some light. The prediction is that for nIR wavelengths the aluminised mirror zpts will be ~ the same as the silver coated mirror zpts but by the z band they will be around 10% (or 0.2 mag) worse. AKY has some experience with the properties of aluminised mirrors and it was noted that she'd be very popular if she put this info online. EGS has received a 3-page gripe from ESO about deliverables. MJI, EGS and JRL will need to go through this together. <<<< JRL has been working on the Skymaking saga and has developed two possible solutions. He is waiting to hear back from VIDEO about which they would prefer. Then all of the VIDEO data will need to be re-processed. JRL noted that Eckhardt had discovered a broken catalogue. This has happened before and was fixed and copied over to Edinburgh. It's unclear whether there was a slip up whereby we didn't replace our own files catalogues with the fixed versions. Action on JRL, AKY and EGS - <<<< what happened to the previous lot of fixes? Also, relevant PIs need to be alerted if there are any important screw-ups. Version 1.2 upgrades -------------------- 9. CASUHELPSs ------------- No corkers this month. 10. AOB ------- MJI needs to fix the APM catalogue server <<<< Continuing Actions: ------------------- AKY - compare Henry's deep stack with our equivalent <<<< JRL - investigate using a "rolling" master linearity correction <<<< All - work ongoing re pawprint QC provenance info in tile headers. Need to be implemented at the grouting stage. JRL to create example. <<<< SC - see if Gaia monitoring web pages can be resuscitated <<<< SC - progress ongoing with Ubuntu/Debian upgrade for Blades <<<< EGS - check how often the WCS convergence problem seems to have occured for MR VISTA by comparing # of matched stds for each detector <<<< New Actions: ------------ AKY - add captions to the flatfield behaviour results& plonk online <<<< JRL - if disk arrives in time, have zpts before IOT (June 8th) <<<< AKY MJI - get to bottom of ING problems and decide on course of action <<<< JRL EGS MJI - astrometric fixes for GPS <<<< EGS - discuss the ESO gripes about the deliverables <<<< MJI JRL MJI - fix the APM catalogue server JRL - find out what happened to the previous lot of VISTA broken <<<< EGS catalogue fixes AKY
